Conditions of Entry


  1. Life vests must be worn by every person on the boat. Life vests are provided to paddlers that need them.

  2. Paddlers must follow the instructions of the Rescue Crew while on the water, and follow guidance given at safety briefings.

  3. All team members must understand the capsize rules before starting training sessions, and before competing in any race. The Festival will brief paddlers on these procedures.

  4. Dragon boats and crews must follow all Maritime New Zealand rules while on the water, and comply with direction from Harbourmaster Harbour Rangers, Maritime Police, and NZ Coastguard.

  5. The Wellington Dragon Boat Festival is a safe place where training and racing is fun and friendly. Any unsociable behaviours will result in that person(s) being removed from the Festival.

  6. Our Rescue Crew and Event Team are trained to keep you safe. Please follow their directions at all times.

  7. The ruling of the Festival on any and all race results is final.

  8. Date changes of trainings, and/or race days may occur due to weather, pandemics, or other reasons.

  9. Team entry fees must be paid prior to commencing training. There are no refunds for missed training sessions, or withdrawal of teams from the Festival.

  10. All paddlers understand that Wellington Dragon Boat Festival takes photos and videos during training and/or on event days. These are stored and used in line with the festival's Media Policy. All paddlers consent to such photos and/or videos being used and shared by Wellington Dragon Boat Festival in line with its Media Policy.
