Wellington Harbour comes alive when school crews are racing. Schools racing takes place on Sunday 8th March 2020.
Training is available from Janaury to March (although most schools start in February) with a standard 8 training sessions. Schools train from 4-5pm and 5-6pm. Bookings are taken on a first in first served basis.
This is a very low cost sport, that promotes team work and fun. It is accessible to every High School. Schools entering for the first time will be provided with a coach and sweep free of charge to help them get established. There is also a Habour fun day on Saturday February 8th to practice race skills.
It's always a fierce battle for line honours in the Mixed, Girls and Boys divisions. Not only is the schools racing watched by thousands of parents, teachers and general spectators, the team chant competition in the lunch break has become a huge part of the day.
The festival office are trying to create more competition in the boys division. Mixed schools may like to enter their first 15 Rugby team. Mixed schools are welcome to enter a Boys team along with the traditional boys schools. Boy's Super 10's racing has now been introduced
Register online now. Most schools form their teams at the end of the previous year so they can hit the water paddling as soon as school recommences.
There is also now a racing division for Teachers and parents. There is a 50% discount on Adult fees for teachers and parents boats.
